Parenting Session | Understanding Your Child, Strengthening Your Connection | Prabhat English Higher Secondary School
Vygotsky Child-Parent Consulting and Learning Center conducted a meaningful Parenting Session on “Understanding Your Child, Strengthening Your Connection” at Prabhat English Higher Secondary School, Bhaktapur, facilitated by Ms. Priyanka Chaguthi, Parenting Coach, Early Years Educator, Teacher's Trainer, and Founder of Vygotsky Nepal.
The session focused on helping parents develop a deeper understanding of their children's emotions, behaviour, developmental needs, communication patterns, and emotional connection. Rather than looking at challenging behaviour simply as something that needs to be corrected, the session encouraged parents to explore what may be behind a child's behaviour and respond with greater understanding and connection.
Every child's behaviour communicates something. Children may not always have the words to express their feelings, needs, fears, frustrations, or difficulties. Understanding these underlying needs can help parents respond more effectively and build a stronger relationship with their children.
During the parenting session, parents were encouraged to reflect on how everyday interactions, communication, emotional availability, and parenting responses can influence a child's sense of security and connection.
The session explored practical aspects of parenting and child development, including:
Understanding children's behaviour and emotional needs
Building stronger parent-child connections
Communicating effectively with children
Responding to children's emotions with greater awareness
Understanding the needs behind challenging behaviour
Creating emotional safety and trust at home
Strengthening positive parent-child relationships
Supporting children's emotional development
Practising mindful and responsive parenting
Moving from correction and reaction toward connection and understanding
A strong parent-child relationship is built through everyday moments of connection, communication, trust, and emotional presence.
The session provided parents with an opportunity to reflect on their own parenting experiences and consider practical ways to become more responsive to their children's needs. This approach is consistent with Priyanka Chaguthi's professional focus on child development, parenting guidance, emotional well-being, and early years education.
The session also highlighted an important message for parents: understanding a child does not mean accepting every behaviour; it means understanding the need or emotion behind the behaviour so that adults can respond appropriately.
The parenting session created a space for parents to learn, reflect, ask questions, and share their experiences. Such conversations can help families develop more meaningful communication and create a supportive environment where children feel heard, understood, and emotionally connected.
The session at Prabhat English Higher Secondary School was part of the continuing efforts of Vygotsky Nepal to support parents, educators, and schools through parenting education, child development awareness, and professional learning opportunities. Vygotsky Nepal provides services including parenting guidance, child-parent counselling, preschool counselling, and teacher training.

The parenting session was an opportunity for parents and educators to pause, reflect, and look at children's behaviour through a more informed and connected perspective.
When parents understand their children better, they can communicate more effectively, respond more thoughtfully, and create stronger relationships that support children's emotional and overall development.
Understanding your child is the first step toward strengthening your connection.
